Julie Stewart-Drinks with Kmarko
This episode of Julie Stewart-Drinks I employ the services of non-other than self-proclaimed Mr. Old Fashioned, Keith “Kmarko” Markovich to explore the East Village speakeasy of “The Back Room.” Kmarko has actually been here before – and asked to leave (bad boy) – so I knew he would want some vengeance on these hipsters.
You would seriously have no idea that this bar exists if you were to walk by (I guess that’s the point of a speakeasy…), the facade says “Lower East Side Toy Company” because it’s roots date back to the Prohibition Era (which is why alcohol is served in the tea cups and beer in the paper bags – we weren’t just trying to hide the label). According to our bartender Arya, the likes of gangsters Meyer Lansky and Bugsy Siegel would frequent this joint having meetings, and getting wasted. Fast forward to today where celebrities and athletes will use this hideaway as a place to engage in their debauchery away from the masses.
As per usual, my co-host and I get a bit tipsy. Drink up kiddies.
